Order to cause, together Robert son of Payn and Walter de Pavilly, or two of them, all and singular knights, esquires or others of his bailiwick who have 40/ yearly of land or rent or more to be warned and requested on the king's behalf, even if they do not hold of him, to so provide themselves with horses and arms and to prepare themselves to be with the king at Carlisle at Midsummer next, ready to set out at his wages against the Scots, and that the said knights, esquires or others shall not omit to do this under pain of a forfeiture to be ordained by the king. The sheriff is ordered to certify the king in his wardrobe under the seals of the sheriff and the said Robert and Walter before the second Sunday of Lent of the names of those thus warned and of the names of all those of his bailiwick whom the king ordered him by another writ to be summoned for the said day and place. He is ordered to send the writs that the king sends to him to the aforesaid Robert and Walter. |

Devon, and to make a right perambulation in the forest by the oath of knights and others of that county, in accordance with the late king's charter of the Forest, saving always the king's oath, the right of his crown, and his proofs and challenges, as contained in the king's letters patent to them; and the perambulation has not yet been made, at which the king is surprised: he orders Walter to be at Exeter in person on Thursday the morrow of the Decollation of St. John the Baptist, ready to set out thence with Thomas and John to make the perambulation aforesaid. |

Walter de Pavely of the county of Somerset has made fine in 200 marks and has found as mainpernors William de Wautou, Jordan Bishop, of the county of Gloucester, Roger Maudut and John de Caunton of the county of York. [Cancelled.] This fine was cancelled in 1327 by reason of the following. Be it remembered that in the Parliament of Edward III summoned on the morrow of the Epiphany [7 January] in his first year at Westminster it was agreed by the king and the whole Parliament that all fines, bonds, ransoms and acknowledgments made by those who were of the quarrel of Thomas, earl of Lancaster, to save their lives or to have again their lands by reason of the hostile action (persecutionis) of Hugh le Despenser the elder and Hugh le Despenser the younger, as well in Chancery as in the Exchequer or other places of the king, be annulled and cancelled according to the form of the said agreement enrolled on the dorse of the Close Roll of the said year, because the said quarrel was adjudged in the same Parliament to be good and just, and the judgements rendered against those of that quarrel were annulled and revoked as altogether erroneous by the king and the whole Parliament; and so all the following fines made for the said cause are cancelled. |
