Captain John Powell (Gowran, 1661-1666) was resident at Cantwell's Court in 1664, and for it paid L1 hearth-money, of which hewas one of the collectors. Cantwell's Court, the property of John Cantwell, was granted to Lord Ranelagh under the Act of Settlement. Captain Powell was probably one of the 49 Officers. He was made a J.P. for the County in 1662. Except in obtaining leave of absence, his name does not appear in the Journals of the House of Commons. He was fined L10 for absence from the Call of the House 31st January, 1665. | ||
