Penmark (Welsh: Pen-marc) is a rural village south-west of Barry near Rhoose in the Vale of Glamorgan, in South Wales. The village is a parish and is a linear village. It has a parish church along the main road running through the village. Penmark Castle was one of the 4-fees of Llancarfan held by the de Nereberd-Cantilupe family. When Robert de Port-St. John of Basing married Agnes Cantilupe, the daughter of Mabel Umfreville of Penmark and William ap Hopkin de Nereberd de Cantilupe, the St. Johns inherited Penmark Castle from Mabel Umfreville, the daughter of Roger Umfreville, Lord of Penmarch.
