On February 20, 1633, Governor John HArvey informed his superiors that Captain William Button would be able to report on current conditions in Virginia. In July 1634 Button presented a petition on behalf of the colony's planters, asking that they be entitled to the same privileges they had before their patents were withdrawn. Button asked for some land on both sides of the Appomattox River. On July 22, 1634, the Privy Council commended Captain William Button for the services he had performed and awarded him property on the Appomattox. A patent issued on December 21, 1636, for some land on the upper side of the Appomattox River, a considerable distance inland from Bermuda Hundred (39). makes reference to Captain Button's acreage (CBE 106, 117-118; PB 1 Pt. 2;590)
